It must have been a wonderful night,
\nIf judged by the results seen at first light.<\/p>\n
Color was splashed about with zest and abandon
\nBut nothing had been done as if it were random.
\nThe pinks washed across the library slope
\nSpoke of beauty, of birth and a wellspring of hope;
\nAnd yellow was used as delightful surprise,
\nPerched here and there, a joy to one’s eyes.<\/p>\n
Softening all edges and corners and blocks
\nAnd even half-hiding the cracks and the rocks,
\nWere greens of every conceivable hue,
\nForeground and background, from moss to green-blue.<\/p>\n
Starry sparkles of violet, of orange and of rose
\nWere sprinkled, til nothing was left in repose.<\/p>\n
What satisfaction, what joy, if you please,
\nThe Artist must gain from his masterpiece
\nFor millions exclaimed, remarked, and appreciated
\nThe overnight landscape that had been created.<\/p>\n
