Stone"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Mary D. Stone (1909-1977)<\/p>\n<p>Mary Elizabeth Diver married Garland Stone in Rush, NY, outside of Rochester, in 1928.  They lived in various towns in southern New York State where Garland worked as a veterinary surgeon. They had three daughters. After retirement they spent winters in Tucson, Arizona. Mary&#8217;s poems are of everyday things, the small wonders of Nature she saw around her.  She expressed her pleasure in rhyme with a dash of humor.<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;&#8212;&#8211;<br \/>\nDouglass lineage: Garland-7, Harriet<br \/>\nStone-6, J.Hubert-5, J.Chester-4, James-3, John-2, Alexander Douglass-1<br \/>\n&#8212;&#8212;&#8211;<\/p>\n<p><strong>It&#8217;s Lambing Time<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s lambing time,<br \/>\nIt&#8217;s lambing time,<br \/>\nHere comes that urgent feeling<br \/>\nTo see the wobbly ones again.<br \/>\nThe lambs are so appealing!<\/p>\n<p>The feet are black,<br \/>\nThe wool is new,<br \/>\nThe tail is really shaking!<br \/>\nThe black nose nudges mother ewe,<br \/>\nAnd leaves this shepherd quaking!<\/p>\n<p><strong>In The Sugar Bush<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The maple tree just felt a tap<br \/>\nAnd then received a spout,<br \/>\nThe bucket now is filled with sap,<br \/>\nAnd more is running out.<br \/>\nSo come and gather quickly, men,<br \/>\nThen boil the syrup down.<br \/>\nIts amber sweetness taste again,<br \/>\nThe pride of Sugartown!<\/p>\n<p><strong>To An Early Bee<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Intelligent bee,<br \/>\nHow did you know<br \/>\nThat the crocus would open?<br \/>\nWho told you so?<\/p>\n<p>You buzzed around<br \/>\nThe delicate cup<br \/>\nAnd sensed the moment<br \/>\nIt opened up!<\/p>\n<p>Then helped yourself<br \/>\nAnd sipped your fill<br \/>\nTill the crocus closed<br \/>\nIn an April chill.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Maytime<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The cows are having a picnic,<br \/>\nEating outdoors today<br \/>\nOn the tender greens of the pasture,<br \/>\nDelicious in early May!<\/p>\n<p>Their ear tags glisten like jewels,<br \/>\nThe sunshine warms them through,<br \/>\nAnd they answer the red-winged black birds<br \/>\nWith a deep contralto, &#8220;Moo&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Spring Rain<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The barnyard is wet and muddy,<br \/>\nBut the meadows are turning green.<br \/>\nThe rain has a dismal patter,<br \/>\nBut the roof tops are shining clean.<\/p>\n<p>The farmers are late with planting,<br \/>\nThe ground is too wet for grain,<br \/>\nBut I&#8217;ve been to the desert country;<br \/>\nI will never deplore the rain!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Mary D.
